This project updated a small 1.5 story home through a larger second story and small addition that opened up the home to the south and provided an opportunity for solar panels. Continuous exterior insulation and air sealing was added throughout and an energy heel truss significanly improved the home’s insulation values. Thoughtful placement of windows and outdoor spaces maintains a sense of privacy on a busy corner lot while opening up to daylight and views. Elements of Japanese and Prairie School architecture were woven into a modern design for family living with no wasted space and plenty of room to entertain and recharge.
