Precipitate was hired by Kaleo on the River to envision a new Retreat Center in the Nebraska Sandhills. This project will allow them to continue their 60+ year mission as a church camp while expanding opportunities for retreats, gatherings, conferences, and authentic connection in the region.

The proposed building is informed by and integrated in the landscape to prioritize views and ideal orientation to the sun. An event space with commercial kitchen will host large gatherings, or can be sub-divided for smaller groups. Offices at the entry provide a check point for guests arriving to events or to check in to one of the attached guest suites. On the lower level, a pool and spa with yoga studio and exercise room enable restoration and movement year-round.

Wellness and connection are core themes, with healthy materials like hempcrete and thermally modified wood and continuous ventilation of fresh, healthy air. The project aims to produce more energy through renewable sources like photovoltaics than it consumes.

 

The Kaleo on the River Board provided design guidance, review, and feedback based on community listening sessions with over 100 participants. The project is currently in further development and fundraising.
